Fix for Calluna PCMCIA hard drives and the Kodak digital cameras displaying an E4 error

The problem arises because the Kodak DCS420 does not handle the power management software on the PCMCIA hard drive very well. Synchrotech disables power management software on all PCMCIA Hard Drives at the factory, however, it would appear that some drives where shipped with power management enabled.

The following procedure must be done on a PC compatible computer. If you only have access to an Apple Macintosh please give us a call at 213.368.3760, so that we can make other arrangements.

  1. Please download the following DOS program: POWER.EXE (22.9kb)
  2. Place your PCMCIA Hard Drive in your PCMCIA slot.
  3. Run POWER.EXE from the DOS prompt:

The following screen will pop up. Press any key to continue...

The following screen will pop up. If Automatic Idle and Automatic Standby
in the right hand side of the display are on you must disable them.

  2. Place the PCMCIA Hard Drive back into the Kodak DCS420 Digital Camera and shoot some pictures. Wait a few minutes and shoot some more picture. If no E4 error is displayed on the back of the camera then the problem has been fixed. If you get an E4 error please follow the procedures again.
