Elan's line of USB based test, measurement, and scope products provide a range of features at previously dreamed of prices. Portability: the miniature USB test equipment line all use standard BNC probes, but can fit in a shirt pocket. Safety: isolated to 300V Cat II USBscope50, USBwave12, USBpulse100, and USBcount50 are ideal for use in educational environments. Stack and synchronize: Elan's unique "stackability" feature allows use of multiple USB test equipment devices together, a flexible and cost saving arrangement. These Universal Serial Bus devices feature source code for driver and application under GNU license, allowing for modification and customization for specific requirements. Choose from USB based Digital Storage Oscilloscopes, Function Generators, Digital Pulse/Clock Generators, or Frequency/Period Counters.

Download Source and SDKs
Elan announces availability of the source code for their USB test and measurement devices. This includes the interface programs and libraries for their USBscope50 1Gsps/75Mhz USB pen-style DSO (Digital Storage Oscilloscope), USBwave12 12.5MHz USB pen-style Function Generator, USBpulse100 100MHz USB pen-style Digital Pulse/Clock Generator, and USBcount50 50MHz USB pen-style Frequency/Period Counter products. Licensed in part under the FSF's LGPL and there rest under the FSF's GPL, ensuring the source code is available for all. These packages are available for download from Elan's site. The following is quoted from an Elan press release:
"The source includes some comments to explain what is going on to help customers modify it, and a licence file which explains what they are allowed to do with it - basically anything except charge for it."
"This will replace the SDK idea and is more powerful because people can reuse the source code to build an application for other operating systems, whereas the DLL in the SDK could only be used on Windows."
