multi-card media adapter The ECA16 PCMCIA PC Card Type II to USB 2.0 Mode ExpressCard 34 Adapter allow use of USB based ExpressCards with PC Card equipped computers. USB-mode ExpressCards include: Novatel Wireless Merlin ExpressCards (XU870, EX720, V740), storage media ExpressCards like Datafab's expSSD, simple minded RS-232 host adapters like Synchrotech's EXP34-RS232-01, most ExpressCard to memory card media adapters like Synchrotech's EXP34-ADP-CF2-01, and several others. The ECA16 WILL NOT WORK WITH any ExpressCard using the PCI Express (PCIe) portion of the ExpressCard standard. This is the majority of ExpressCards that do any other than the devices discussed above. Any real host adapter for SATA, FireWire, Ethernet, USB 2.0, etc. WILL NOT WORK WITH the ECA16.

ExpressCards often have high power requirements. PC Card slots are capable of supplying required power, but the ECA16 supplies enough power to guarantee the performance of ExpressCards. Drawing the full 5V, available only to 16-bit PC Cards, ensures ExpressCards aren't effected by performance problems associated with lower power 32-bit adapters. The ECA16 utilizes Elan's VMB5000 chipset and draws only minimal power for itself. Using USB 2.0 technology, the ECA16 supports high speed applications including HSDPA and HSUPA ExpressCards. The ECA16 is designed to fit snugly into PC card slots, with only a minimal protrusion outside of laptops.
